Milford Manor

Residential Dementia Care

Set in a delightful location just a short walk from the River Bourne, Milford Manor is a specialist dementia care home for up to 30 people.

The home is widely recognised for its innovative approach to dementia, and draws on the work of the specialist dementia centres at Stirling, Surrey and Bradford universities to translate their research findings into practical ways to help and support people with this illness.

The way we run the home is purposely designed to reduce any confusion or anxiety residents may feel – giving them the maximum freedom and choice in their daily lives, encouraging them to do as much as they can for themselves, and involving their families and friends as often as possible.

All of the staff, at every level, receive specific dementia training and are supported by an experienced senior team including a registered mental health nurse. David Sheard, a recognised national expert, directly trained our Manager who has a specialist diploma in caring for people with dementia.

Regular groups are also held to allow relatives to offer feedback while also providing information and emotional support to the wider family members of every resident.

“How can we begin to put into words our thanks for all you have have done for Dad during his time with you at Milford Manor.  He has been so fortunate to receive ‘Rolls Royce’ care from an exceptional team, you have all gone the extra mile with a kind word, a friendly smile and an extra cup of tea!  You brought joy and happiness into his life and always treated him with the utmost respect and dignity”

“All the staff without exception were loving, kind and very understanding.  As a family, we felt assured that our mother had the best care  possible, which gave us enormous peace of mind.”

“I have been very happy with the care Dad received even though he is not the easiest of people to deal with.”
Son of resident.

He (Dad) and we were truly blessed to have found Milford Manor and because of his dementia we have all had the honour, privilege and pleasure of meeting such dedicated, caring and loving staff. You are all very special and you never forget that people go to Milford Manor not to die but to live

“When it became impossible for the family to look after Dad, entrusting a loved one to the care of strangers, no matter how professional, was something the family worried about prior to the decision.  Our experience has been that each and every member of Wessex Care treated Dad as they would a memeber of their own family, the care and compassion shown was well above any reasonable professional expectation and was like suddenly having an expanded family looking after a loved one.  They made the end of life process dignified, gentle and above all caring for both Dad and family.  Thank you to all the staff at Milford and Little Manor”
